Last year we completed a full home renovation and addition with Schachne Architects & Builders and couldn’t be happier with both the process and the result. She helped us make what felt like an endless number of finish selections, from materials and colors to fixtures and details. She also provided input on furniture placement and room layouts, which made a huge difference in helping us design a space that was functional. Dain was another key part of the design and architectural process. He worked closely with us on architectural modifications and helped create mockups and visual concepts for finishes and design details, making it much easier to envision the final product and make decisions. Once construction started, Jeremy (project manager) and Nicole (asst project manager) became our go-to people. They were at the house daily coordinating subcontractors, keeping everything moving, solving problems, and communicating with us constantly. On a project of this size, unexpected issues are inevitable, but they were always responsive, calm, and willing to jump in whenever something came up. We always knew what was happening, and they made us feel like a priority throughout the entire process. What impressed us most was that even with all the surprises that come with renovating an older home, the project stayed within the timeline they originally gave us and within the budget expectations we discussed upfront. The best builders we’ve ever worked with. We purchased a house which needed extensive work. From the beginning Stan (architect and co-owner) and Donna (designer and co-owner) were completely upfront with the cost and timeline. From day one, their staff has walked us through the design and build process. Stan (architect) is able to take an idea and put it to paper. He was tireless in making sure everything was to code and properly permitted. He communicated with the utility companies on my behalf when he could and made sure everything was perfectly choreographed and making sure I was aware of any hiccups along the way. When we were having difficulty getting approval, he was relentless in the application process going to meetings, getting signatures, and attending committees with pictures and paperwork to back up our position. His pricing was fair and transparent and he invoiced us as we went so there were no surprises. It was also helpful that they were able to show us 3-d renderings on the large TV screen so we could visualize it. His attention to detail is unsurpassed Donna (the designer) designed an amazing layout! She also kept us on schedule helping me make color and fixture choices out of the seemingly endless options. She was able to cooperate with me to make choices that made sense for the style I was trying to achieve. Her awareness of available materials meant she was able to offer suggestions I never could have known about on my own. (Also, it doesn’t hurt that their relationship with many distributors means they can offer better prices on some of the materials). Jeremy (the project manager) was on site at least every day communicating with the tradesmen what we wanted and ensuring the quality of their work was top notch. He is knowledgeable about the process involved in building and solved on site problems quickly and with apparent ease. He was also there to pinpoint details finishing that other builders would have missed. Nicole (assistant project manager) she was often onsite when Jeremy wasn’t. She was amazing about keeping us in the loop, making sure schedules were lining up and left a completely clean worksite at the end of the day. The floors were swept and cabinets and countertops were carefully covered. We’re now 6 months out of construction and we are absolutely thrilled with the results. Nicole has been great about following up with any details that were missed or need to be addressed. We recently began another building project with them and the process has been just as easy. Overall, Stan is so easy to work with. He pays attention to important details and gave me an accurate and comprehensive estimate. He recommended things I needed which improved my project. After interviewing several [I think 5 or 6 in total] design/build firms I hired Schachne Architects & Builders for three reasons: 1) I simply liked Stan. He was personable and direct. Basically an all-around great guy. 2) He gave me a full page of references. I called every single one of them and they all had nothing but glowing things to say. And, several were repeat customers of large-scale jobs. 3) He was the most honest and realistic person I spoke to regarding my scope of work, the likely duration of the project and ballpark cost based on my scope of work. Our project initially included the addition of a second floor. However, due to various reasons, we scaled back the scope of work and decided against a second floor. Our final scope of work included enclosure of carport into garage, building a courtyard, gutting down to the studs and redoing both bathrooms [plumbing stayed in place but all new fixtures, tile, etc.], new tile flooring throughout, custom built-ins throughout [living, dining, and bedrooms], new interior doors, trim, and paint, and new lighting throughout. We broke ground around Nov-2013 and were done about a year later. Frankly, it would have been sooner if various life events hadn't slowed the progress [all our doing - not Stan's!]. During our project we lost several pets to terminal illnesses, went through fertility treatments and a twin pregnancy. It was not an ideal time in our lives to be undergoing a full home renovation. Yet, through it all, Stan and his subcontractors were absolutely amazing to work with! They worked within our schedule and limitations. They respected our privacy when we had to say goodbye to a much-loved pet. They worked around my fertility treatments and pregnancy [appointments, bedrest, etc.]. I cannot imagine having gone through what we did over the last year working with anyone else. I had a very clear vision of what my finished home would look like. But I'm neither an architect nor a designer. But I had Houzz! Stan went through each of my Ideabooks and we discussed at length what I liked about different images I'd saved. He would present me with his interpretation of my thoughts and we would then work together to find a design that was the right fit. I am in love with my home. The floors are amazing. The custom cabinetry is gorgeous. My bathrooms finally look the way I'd always envisioned. Nothing is ever 100% perfect ... but whenever I had an issue I knew I could call Stan and he would be there to resolve the problem. In fact, just the other day I had a minor issue [turns out it was my husband's fault and a simply fix] and I called Stan ... he put in a call to his subcontractor for me and the issue was addressed that day ... which was the day before Christmas Eve! I honestly didn't think we'd be able to get someone out for several days. The project took longer than originally expected and cost more than originally budgeted. However, both were entirely due to changes we made and conflicts in our schedule. They were not in any way due to actions [or lack thereof] taken by Stan and his subcontractors. Life simply got in the way of our 'schedule' and I blew my budget because I kept selecting higher-end fixtures and products than we had originally budgeted. I would hire Stan. If we ever move and need to renovate, I will call Stan. If we decide to build a home, I will call Stan. If we want to make any additions or changes to this house, I will call Stan. I will [and do] refer my friends and neighbors to Stan. He is a great guy, a solid architect and contractor, and a pleasure to work with. During the design and renovation of our house we were on a business assignment outside of the country. Stan kept in constant touch with us and made what we thought what would be a difficult project into an enjoyable and most satisfying experience. Working closely with Stan Schachne greatly helped us in meeting all of our renovation goals. We wanted a kitchen full of light, fairly traditional but with an eclectic twist. We also wanted a large porch with a tropical flair off the livingroom and a brand new hurricane-rated metal roof. Stan guided us through the design and construction process and turned our concepts into functional space in ways we had not thought of. His solid experience avoided costly errors and he always provided us with accurate estimates for costs and time to complete the project. He was able to make recommendations that we had not thought of, to optimize the quality of the overall design while keeping construction costs down. His experience and advice turned out to be worth a great deal. He helped us define our goals. He understood factors that affected the overall quality of the project, such as the need for indoor-outdoor family life and the real square footage required for the porch of our dreams. While we had a good idea of what we wanted, Stan didn't only review our decisions, but also made recommendations whenever he saw a potentially better approach. Stan created the best physical environment for the kitchen and the porch within both our budget and our time frame. He had our best interests at heart, and we were always able to communicate with him openly as the project developed. We were living abroad at that time and communications could have been a problem but Stan made it very easy: he called us, emailed us, sent pictures of the renovation at every stage, he even took pictures of the kitchen at different times of the day to show our the light changed the room... Stan carefully edited our ideas by giving to our works of art space to breathe and light to unleash their magic.
We selected Schachne Architects and builders to do a small addition (cabana) to our home since we liked the fact that we got two services by one person for a job as this. He was very attentive from start to finish and stayed on target to meet our aggressive deadline. The work is first class and we get loads of comments on finding such a detailed builder in south Florida. Schachne Architects & Builders designed and rebuilt a master bathroom in my residence. The project started out as a problem-solving matter: no one could identify the source of a leak in the master bathroom exterior wall. By the time the project was over we had completely demolished, redesigned and rebuilt the master bathroom. There were 3 stages to this project: find and resolve the leak (it turned out to be due to the foundation); redesign a new master bathroom and rebuild it. Our bathroom turned out tremendous. It is a very sophisticated design that was built extremely well. I highly recommend Schachne Architects & Builders. We have plans for a major remodel in our home in the future and we will be using them again.

Stan did a masterful job in constructing a 1,500 s/f two-story addition onto our home with minimal disruption of our living space. He worked with us from the design phase through completion and truly has stood behind his work. Most telling was how Stan handled his job during hurricane Wilma. The morning after at the break of dawn Stan was in touch with us making sure that the temporary wall that divided the addition work held through the night. He said , “I couldn’t sleep all night worrying about your family’s safety.” As it turned out his work with stood the storm . The existing house was a 1950's era one story 1900 sq.ft. house and Stan designed the second floor, Key West inspired, renovation adding an additional 1500 sq.ft. We also appreciated the fact that you listened to us. You let us know every morning and every evening what was happening, who would be working, and when we were away you even sent us pictures. The lakefront lot was amazing in the neighborhood we wanted – but the house was awful. The floor plan was odd and choppy with the tiniest kitchen I’ve ever seen. Nor did it take advantage of its only asset . . . the property’s lake. Prior to purchasing the home, we spoke to two architects to see what could be done. They both said “knock it down.” However, the home values in the neighborhood didn’t support the investment we would have had to make if we built a new home on the property. We gave it one more try and called Schachne Architects & Builders, whose work we saw on their web site. Stan met us at the house. After walking around the house and site, Stan differed from the others and told us that the house had “tremendous potential.” We met with Stan and Donna to discuss our design aesthetic and our wishes for the house. The house had many challenges so we didn’t expect many options, but in our third meeting we were presented with not one but with three amazing remodel plans from which to choose. Where the other builders were unable to have one single creative vision, the Schachne’s presented three, each with varying costs and features. All three plans presented were creative and functional, and each had the “wow” factor we desired. We were blown away! The Schachne’s designs transformed a dark, creepy house into a bright and functional dream home which maximizes the lake views and is best described by our daughter as “peaceful.” We receive many compliments from our guests but the two that we hear most are “tranquil” and “paradise.” Thank you Stan and Donna. My project was the addition of a family room and covered deck from foundation to tile roof. From the beginning of this project to the last detail Mr. Schachne provided the best advice, excellent sub-contractors, explained every step and was immediately available to answer my questions and correct any mistake. We contracted Schachne Architects + Builders for our home renovation project and we are very happy we did! Our home is totally amazing! We had a large addition/renovation project in mind for our property. We wanted two large expansions to our existing home to include an attached full guest home (in-law suite), 4 car garage, large family room, two more bedrooms, a full bath, renovated pool and pool deck area, and a wall fountain. Like we said we had a pretty big project in mind. From the start we knew we were in good hands after first meeting with Stan and Donna. We could see from their prior projects that they are an excellent design/build firm. We would think that all great home projects start with a great architectural design for which their vision and expertise made that happen. They did an outstanding job in taking what we wanted to accomplish with our home project and turn all of those ideas into a fantastic design which blended and flowed our existing home structure beautifully with the new additions. Whereas the now finished expanded home presents as a single contiguous and cohesive structure, and not a home with some obvious additions made to it. From start to finish, it was a pleasure working with Donna and Stan on the design of our home on the island of Bonaire. The outcome was more than we had ever imagined. We are just about to start our second project with Stan and Donna- we couldn't be more pleased with their work! We initially worked with the Schachnes in 2015 to remodel an older waterfront home in east Fort Lauderdale. Since then, our family has expanded, and so has our need for more room. Deciding the type of addition was the difficult part- calling Schachne Architect and Builders was the easy part. We knew the high level of quality they offer, and we love how they stand by their work. We were recommended Stan and Donna from friends of ours who had a kitchen/ family room remodel completed in 2014, and since then we have recommended the Schachnes to at least half a dozen other people. If you are looking to build a house from scratch or doing a remodel, look no further than Schachne Architects and Builders. To set the back story, we bought our house back in 1994. It was a cute old Spanish style Bungalow built in 1927. We did everything to it, new plumbing, electrical, replaced all the old horse hair plaster. Added a new bathroom and kitchen. It was a great house with many memories. However, it was a house made of stucco on wood frame and after many years of neglect before us the house’s bones were beginning to crack. We tried to sell it, giving any new potential buyer full disclosure of the conditions of our old house. We got a lot of low ball offers but nothing came of it. We loved the neighborhood as we had lived here for over twenty years, so we finally decided it was time to start anew. We had ideas in our heads as to what we wanted in a new house, we were against a McMansion. There’s only two of us but we did want it big enough for guests. We love cooking and entertaining so that was big on the list, and we didn’t have a pool, and that was also a high priority. We were newbies in the design and build world and we went to Houzz to look for potential choices. We interviewed with a few but when we first sat down with Stan Schachne, we felt we found the right architect/ builder. It was confirmed after meeting his wife Donna who is also a designer and Ken whose is an associate architect. We had the concept in our heads, but they were able to put the ideas on paper and after a few tweaks we were on our way to our dream house. Because they are a small hands on shop, we felt a part of the project from the beginning, any question was answered promptly, and our project manager Jeremy couldn’t have been easier to work with. Overall our experience was wonderful, you hear so many horror stories when someone builds a house. We had none as a result of our builder/designer. City permits etc. is a story for another time. I’ve had the opportunity to recommend Schachne Builders to friends and acquaintances and did so without hesitation. If you are looking for a great building experience, look no further!
We found Schachne Architects & Builders’ website through online reviews and sent an inquiry through email. Stan called us right away and the next day we met with their team to talk about our whole house remodel/expansion. We left that meeting confident they were the company to shepherd our project through concept design and construction – a one stop shop with a professional team of architects, designers, project managers and top notch subcontractors. We cannot emphasize enough the benefits we experienced of having an architect and general contractor being the same company. Stan and Donna’s team streamlined the process, communications and completions through the complex South Florida building codes which we learned are some of the toughest in the nation. It was also so helpful to have Donna’s interior design knowledge to create a truly superior living space. She guided us every step of the way by scheduling appointments in showrooms, sending us ideas, meeting fabricators and synchronizing details with our own conceptual ideas. On-site, Jeremy, Dane and Ken were all very hands on and worked daily to ensure our utmost satisfaction right down to the slightest detail. We absolutely love our new home and we cannot thank the Schachne’s enough!
